John Shine
  John Shine 79, died at his home in Adel Oregon Friday, May 5, 2000.
   He was born June 12, 1920 to Jack Patsy and Hannah McCarthy Shine in Inchintotane New Market County Cork, Ireland.
   He came to Oregon in 1948 thinking it was for a short time. Coming from Ireland to Guano Valley was as different as night and day. The open spaces grew on him over time and Warner Valley became his home and his world.
   John married Laura Verling in Lakeview Feb. 15, 1958. John Loved his family and ranching in Adel. He began ranching more than 40 years ago, taking over his uncle Jack McCarthy's ranch. He never retired. He especially enjoyed irrigating, feeding cows, haying, and he was always ready for a game of horseshoes.
   John was a member of the Adel School board, Knights of Columbus and St. Richard Catholic Church.
   Survivors include his wife Laura and son George of Adel; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Theresa of Auburn, Washington., daughter Mary and fiance Robert Knudson of Bellvue, Washington., and daughter and son-in-law Julie and Bill Loome of Boise, Idaho; nine grandchildren, Katie, Kelley, Molly, Patrick, Hannah, John, Connor, Mackenzie and Morgan; sisters Bridie Kiely of Lakeview and Nora Mohoney of Ireland.
   He was preceded in death by his brothers, Humphrey, Billy, Pat and Tom, and one sister, Molly.
   Holy rosary services were held Tuesday, May 9, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. The Mass of Christian Burial was offered Wednesday, May, 10. Interment took place at the Adel Cemetery. The Rev. Raymond Hopp officiated.
   Casket bearers were James, John, Richard and Tom Kiely, Jesse Hartman and George and Tim Verling.
   Honorary casket bearers were Terry Cahill, Glenn Cleland, Harold Dyke, Harold Gipson, Nolan Griener, John Lane, Henry O'Keeffe, Lou Ringuette, Don Robinson, Earl Rodgers and Lonnie Schadler.
