Dear Mother:
Just a line hoping to find you all in good health.
As I am enjoying the best of health Thank God. I arrived on Wednesday night at nine o'clock. They were surprised when I went in Ellie knew me when she saw my face. The other lads or Mike did not know me. They have a very nice place here in town, Willie, Josey and Robert are going to school.
I met a lot lads from around Newmarket here in town. But I did not meet Uncle Tom yet, but I sent him word to come in. So when he comes in I, will write to you and tell you all about him. Well Mother the Lads that were coming over in the boat with me went to Chicago.
I came right straight from New York. I stopped in New York for two days, so I thought that was enough.
Well Mother you will find inside in this letter a check for two pounds as I know you will need it. Well Mother this check is very small but I could not do any better, at the present. But I will do better later on, as I have to get big warm shirts and overalls so I think they will loan me a few. The shirts that I brought with me they would not be warm enough, so I will leave them here at the Barry's, for I can wear them when I come into town. Well Mother if I get anyone going back, I will send the overcoat with them. But it would cost too much to post it. What I would pay to post it, would buy me a new one. Well Mother do not answer this letter for I am writing in a few days time and well send you my address. Tell John Young that I am writing to him also hoping they are all well.
Remember me to all my brothers and sisters and not forgetting William.
Goodbye from Mike.
